New room home decor | Wishlist

Untitled

Vine garland // Rose garland // Chest of drawers // Mirror // Shoe rack // Rug // Make up brush pots // Candle holder // Faux peonies // Bed throw

Apologies for being very absent on the blogging front! My family moved house on thursday and I've been super busy, working then moving. Plus this isn't the final move for me this year, I'm moving to Japan in month's time! I've been trying to make my room feel as home-y as possible but I won't be able to make any changes to it realistically til I'm home next summer. However I have purchased a few bits and bobs (like the roses and vine garlands) to drape around my bed. I nicked this idea off my bestie and it looks so cute! Makes your room feel like woodland den. Primark are also doing some white rose fairy lights at the moment on sale for £4.90 so I've picked those up too.

I'm up in a sloping attic room so this has made it problematic putting up pictures and moving in furniture that's taller than about 1.5m haha, it's definitely a challenge! I am super lucky though as I have my own floor which includes a small bathroom, 'sitting room' area with a kitchenette (not that I'll be using it apart from to make cups of tea) and a bedroom. Apart from probably concussing myself by repeatedly forgetting the walls slope and hitting my head, I'm really looking forward to being able to decorate properly when I'm home for the summer next year! xx

FOTD #32 | Cheryl Cole Crazy Stupid Love video make up

Chanel le crayon Kohl intense in noir // c/o Click Fragrance
Eyeshadow in 'coppery' // MAC

So recently Cheryl Cole released her music video for 'Crazy Stupid Love', and although I am not a big fan of Chezza herself, the make up was pretty damn cool. According to my research (googling) her make up artist used the exact eyeshadow I have here to get that super coppery/orange look. I actually went out and got this eyeshadow specially to do this look, none of the 'drugstore' beauty brands seemed to have a colour like this in Boots!

This look is actually pretty easy to do, you only need two eyeshadows, the red-toned brick and then an intense orange/copper colour for the center of the lid. I also used the Chanel Le Crayon Kohl Intense Eye Pencil in noir that Click Fragrance sent me, and omg it is so good! Super pigmented, glides on like a dream and was surprisingly easy to do a cat eye with - I usually shy away entirely from pencil liners for my top lid because I never find them creamy enough to work with or get a good cat eye flick with. This one however is another kettle of fish entirely - definitely a staple black eye pencil worth having in your make up bag.

I haven't listed the rest of the products I used as they're ones I often use in FOTD posts, however let me know if you want to know what anything else I used was! To see a tutorial I wrote for Click Fragrance on how to create the eye make up from this look - CLICK HERE xx

FOTD #31 | Orange lips and nails for summer

Bourjois polish in 94 - c/o Click Fragrance
Topshop lipstick in Ohh La La

One colour that is pretty mutually wearable on lips and nails to add a pop of colour to your look is orange, whether you go for corals (try Barry M's peach melba and Topshop lipstick in Whimsical for a super pastel version of this look) or true brights like I did. I love this lipstick to death, as you can see from how worn down the bullet is! Super creamy and a very vibrant orange or coral colour depending on the light and how many coats you apply. Do you guys have any colours you like to match on your lips and nails? xx

Weddingshe Cheap evening dresses

2
Fashion Elegant Split Front A-Line Blake Lively Same Evening Dress // Fashion Concise V-Neck Beading A-Line Floor Length Evening Dress

Untitled

How gorgeous are these dresses from Weddingshe? They have a huge amount of stunning cheap evening dresses online on crazy sale  (many of the dresses are half price or under), so if you have an evening or formal event coming up I highly recommend taking a look! Many of the dresses are celebrity inspired so if you are stuck for inspiration for a formal event you can most likely find a version of a dress you've seen a celebrity wear at a red carpet event!

These four dresses are my favourites I found in the evening dress collection, a lot of them have simple silhouettes and minimal beading/embroidery so they'd be super easy to dress up or down depending on the formality of the event. I adore the Blake Lively maroon/burgundy dress, how stunning is it?! Not only is it super elegant but you can easily dress this down from red carpet standards: I would style it with black court heels, minimal silver jewellery and a black clutch for a less formal event. Also the dresses I've chosen have a focus on draping and non-heavy materials, so many of these would be perfect for summer events as you won't overheat! Definitely take a look if you're looking for an evening dress!

Which one is your favourite? xx

Beauty wishlist #2

Untitled

Maybelline forever strong professional nail polish in ceramic blue // Anastasia Beverly hills dipbrow pomade in blonde // Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser for all skin types // Tonymoly egg pore blackhead out oil gel // Essie ballet slippers nail polish // Tonymoly Tomatox Magic Massage Pack // Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm (all the colours pls) // MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers in Serene and Reckless // MUA Powerbrow in Fair // Illamasqua false eye lashes in no.17

Bits and pieces I've been adding to my wishlist recently! I think the MUA products are especially doable, the power brow is only £3! Plus two interesting looking korean skincare products, who wouldn't want to scoop their face mask out of a tomato?! On the theme of skincare I'm pretty sure I came across Cetaphil in a blog post for treating acne skin, which I don't have but I am super blemish prone, oily and sensitive. So when my current cleanser runs out I think I will see if being super gentle to it does the trick. What beauty things have you guys been longing for recently? xx

Summer lookbook! Tumblr goth/D&G inspired | Video

So this is a little mini project I conducted with my two besties! India does some modelling and acting and therefore was an excellent choice, and I much prefer the styling and behind the scenes shiz to being the subject of the film. Pretty much all 3 looks are our style as we have very similar tastes, so bits and pieces were borrowed from others wardrobes rather than my own.

Styled, directed, filmed and edited by me. Modelling and make up by India (her tumblr is HERE), hair and wardrobe assistance by Elly (her tumblr is HERE, she's a really talented artist).

Let me know what you think of this! Obviously it's a super amateur production (shot on the same digital camera I use for my outfit posts and edited on windows movie maker), but I'm pretty proud of what we created! xx

How to dye your hair pastel lilac/purple and maintain it | Hair

IMG_8449

During the summer exam period because of exams and general laziness I hadn't managed to maintain my hair for ages, it had faded to a greenish silver colour (let me tell you, once you dye your hair blue it is VERY hard to get the green pigment out of it and I had roots which were pushing over an inch of regrowth. I don't mind a tiny bit of root regrowth but since I had left mine since early March, they just looked ridiculous against the rest of my hair, and plus for some reason when your roots get atrocious when you pull your hair back into a ponytail it makes your hair look greasy. Not good. Anyways once I finished exams my housemate kindly helped me sort my hair out.

As we went from step one again, I thought this would be a good opportunity to show how I dye my hair lilac. To go lilac or any pastel colour, you need to lighten your hair to the lightest blonde possible, white if you can.

Untitled

Before (huge roots, faded to light silver, green ends) // After bleaching
bleaching
IMG_8837

We decided to bleach my entire head to get the green out, I've already done this to my hair twice (albeit over the space of a year and half), but luckily I have very thick durable hair. I'm really impressed
by the bleach I used which was Schwarzkopf Blonde Ultime LXX Xtra Xtreme Lightener. I've never thought of my natural hair colour as super dark brown but since having to do my roots I've always found bits don't bleach quite blonde enough, therefore purple won't take to them and you end up with suspicious gingery or very yellow blonde bits around your parting.

So I went with something with a better lift, the Blonde Ultime LXX has 8 levels of lift which is great. It took about an hour and half to do my entire head (used two boxes of LXX and one of LX I had leftover from doing my roots last), then I left it for about another 45 mins before washing it out. It took all the green/leftover lilac out my hair and took my roots the lightest yellow I've ever seen them.

WARNING: If you have weak or super damaged hair, bleaching for this long could snap it off completely. Condition like a mofo after you bleach and only do it if you know your hair can take it! You can tell if your hair is too damaged if you pull a strand and it 'stretches' rather than remaining taught, this is your hair telling you to put the bleach down.

toning
IMG_8839

I then used La Riche Directions in Silver (accidentally ordered Directions instead of Stargazer, which I normally use), on dry hair and left it for about 13 mins. This really toned my hair well and I definitely recommend toning your hair after bleaching if you are going lilac, you want your hair to be as white blonde as possible. Because it's supposed to be used on damp hair it actually turned some parts of my hair lilac but hey, I was going that colour anyways so wasn't too fussed, but if you're toning hair white be careful.

dyeing
IMG_8840

Next I mixed some La Riche Directions in Violet with conditioner to the purple I wanted, my flatmate applied to it to my head, then I left it as long as possible! Most alternative dyes will tell you to apply to towel dried hair for something like 15 mins, which unless you are aiming for a super light pastel tone won't do much to your hair. Plus if you are diluting your colour with conditioner leaving it for longer will just act as a conditioning mask and make your hair feel amazing.

Post toning // Freshly dyed!

So essentially: Go blonde, CONDITION, go blonder, then go purple! Coming up to this September I'll have had purple hair for a year, how time flies!

roots
IMG_8709

I would call these baby roots, others would say I need a bleach. It's up to your preference.

Depending on your hair length, you essentially do the same as when you dye your hair but only on the regrowth. I have a lot of hair so I use two boxes of bleach usually, then again tone them, and dye purple.

re-dyeing

IMG_8393

This is entirely up to preference, pastel colours do fade fast so when it gets too light for you just red-ye it, I find this pretty ease to do myself with a mirror to check the back of my head. I probably redye my hair once a month, less if I'm feeling lazy.
keeping the purple
IMG_8838

Add purple dye to your conditioner, invest in a purple shampoo (I currently use Lush's Daddy-O which smells of Parma Violets, yum), wash your hair in as cold water as possible, wash your hair as little as possible. Sadly there's no secret to keeping your hair an unnatural colour like purple permanently without dyeing (someone bring out some permanent bright dyes pls).

So there's my little guide to purple hair! If you have any purple/teal hair questions (see THIS post for turquoise hair info), please don't hesitate to contact me on twitter or tumblr, links are below xx

5 beauty favourites | July 2014

IMG_8833

Lush Brazened Honey Fresh Facemask - I believe this is meant to be a revitalising mask, it's the second one I've tried after asking the sales assistants which ones they recommend for oily skin and I think I prefer this to the previous one I tried, Love Lettuce. It makes your skin feel refreshed, and I find really brightens dull skin (which I find goes hand in hand with oiliness). I try and use it a couple of times a week, as the fresh facemasks from Lush have about a 2 week shelf life.

MUA Luxe Powerbrow - Now onto two products I won in the lovely Cat's (her blog is here) giveaway. I can't believe how good this is for the price (£3!!), this shade is slightly too dark for my brows but it is wearable if I'm feeling a strong brow, I will definitely be getting this in the lighter shade. The brow part is super thin so you can make detailed strokes, and also comes with a highlighter stick the other end to highlight the brow arch.

MUA Luxe Precision felt eyeliner - I would definitely say this a dupe for Soap&Glory's Supercat eyeliner pen, maybe better than it. Both require an eye primer to get the super black colour to come out properly, the product itself is pretty identical, asides from this MUA one has a slightly harder, more pointed felt brush so you get a bit more control to make cat eye flicks.

Lush Grease Lightning spot treatment - You can read my review of this HERE. I recently tested this against an Estee Lauder spot treatment on two blemishes, the next morning the spot I used Grease Lightning on was far more reduced. Completely renewed my love for this product.

Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume lifting mascara - I recently ran out of my current mascara so decided to use up unopened mascara testers in my make up box, picked this one out and the volumising of the lashes with it is seriously good. It coats well and gives my fairly average length lashes a bit of a boost.

These monthly posts make me realise how quickly time flies, I can't believe we're now in August - it's only just under two months that I move to Japan! What have you guys been loving beauty wise this month? xx

Tattoo choker - // eBay
Mood stone choker // Topshop
Shell choker // unknown
Crescent moon choker // eBay
Daisy choker // Miss Selfridge

This has been my favourite part of the 90s throwback trend, not gonna lie! I don't think I actually had a tattoo choker as a child but since I bought one off ebay (the picture of me when I had green hair and wore it has 461 notes on tumblr, my greatest tumblr achievement), I've been pretty obsessed with picking up new chokers. They make outfits look a bit more interesting, nothing better than throwing on a goth loli Misa Amane style choker with an other wise cute and girly ensemble; and you can get so many different styles now the highstreet is picking up on this trend. Next I want to get one of the leather bondage style ones with a heart ring, preferably in pink! What do you guys think of the choker trend? xx
