So yesterday I got back from a 6 day trip to South Korea! I went with a group of friends from my Uni in Japan and we spent 3 days in Seoul and 3 days in Busan, which is a port city on the south coast. Personally I loved Seoul, it feels like a slightly 'rough around the edges' Tokyo if that makes sense, the people are bit more brusque and everything isn't spotless but I think that makes it more fun. Also the architecture is insanely modern in Seoul which makes for some amazing sights. We stayed in Myeongdong which is a shopping district and omg the shopping is so good in Seoul! The south korean obsession with appearance means there is a make up or skin care shop every 10 metres (and there is a lot of focus of male make up/skin care too) which I loved, and found the pricing cheaper compared to Tokyo.

Most people are super stylish and made up, but to the point where it feels very conformist; on a bus tour I had a slightly weird experience realising about 90% of the general public on the streets were all wearing variations of coats in the EXACT same maroon colour. Also adverts for plastic surgery in the subway are a bit strange, something like 1 in 10 residents of Seoul have had plastic surgery apparently, and surgeries that you go in your lunch break to get done are the norm. The result of this is everyone is exceptionally good looking (especially korean guys, who are also very tall *swoon*).

We also took a day trip to the DMZ (demilitarised zone) between north and south korea, and explored one of the tunnels north korea built to attempt to invade south korea which was really interesting. If you are really into museum/cultural exploits you can do it all in about 3 days in Seoul but if you also have an interest in beauty and fashion this is definitely a city to visit! xx

Ah I want to go and visit Seoul so much! The surgery thing is funny isn't it? I mean, it's kind of crazy when you look at all the K pop stars who are insanely beautiful. I like the observation about people being conformist. It's not surprising I suppose, but really interesting!

It really made me look around and think are Koreans naturally attractive or is everyone surgically altered? Kind of a bit like the Uglies books! xx

This looks so interesting! It must be fab to be based over there so these trips aren't as expensive as from Europe. I have always been interested by South Korea, it sounds like it has such a unique culture! x
