Our family pig had piglets about a fortnight ago, they're so adorable! They were actually sunbathing with their Mum but I accidentally woke them up, oops. It's been incredibly sunny and I've been stuck inside working all week, today is my one day off before I work 6 days in a row...shoot me now. Thursday is my last day though then no more retail for a while, I can't frigging wait! The post title is from Bubblegum Bitch by Marina and the Diamonds, her new album and the concept is amazing - think I prefer it to the Family Jewels. Hope everyone is enjoying the sun, I'm off to go raid the freezer for a shitload of ice cream. xx

Hairy Idols: Emer O'Toole and Charlotte Free

Photobucket
Source: Terry Richardson

For a change I thought I’d have something of substance on le blog rather than ‘look at new shiny things I bought’ or ‘today I dyed my hair pink’. Recently I read this article by Emer O’ Toole on hair; specifically body hair on women, and how it is viewed as unacceptable by society. Emer hasn’t removed any body hair in 18 months. She was on This Morning and pitted against a salon owner who said she admired Emer’s confidence; as if she wasn’t clean shaven she wouldn’t feel confident in herself. Emer pointed out that girls should be taught at a young age to find confidence in the fact they are an interesting person with a quirky personality, rather than they are beautiful (which can only be achieved by being as hairless as a Sphynx cat).

It is scary how something as natural as body hair is viewed as completely unacceptable by society for one sex, but completely acceptable for another. Although it’s nice to feel clean shaven, a massive part of the fact women are obsessed with hair removal is down to the fact we are taught from a young age to get rid of our body hair whatever way possible, as it is disgusting and unattractive. At the end of Emer’s spot on This Morning 80% of viewers agreed with the fake tanned, made up salon owner who put forward no interesting points at all and agreed with Emer for most of the spot. Kind of ridiculous! Emer said in her article she had been pointed and laughed at on the tube for having hairy armpits, why would this not happen if it was a man?

Charlotte Free (love her) also doesn’t shave. When interviewed by the guardian she said:

"It's an equal rights thing. It's ridiculous that women have to shave their armpits and legs every day. I don't have time. I think it's asinine that men have this standard that women should be perfectly shaven. I only shave them once in a blue moon for a really big job. I like to keep my body hair. It's a symbol of how I'm not going to conform to something that's so ridiculous."

I wanted share this with you guys as I thought Emer was really inspiring. Hopefully with more role models like her soon it will be acceptable to be both hairless and hairy without people recoiling in horror that you haven’t been subjugated by society’s norms for female beauty.

What do you guys think, do you think being hairless is solely down to society? Would you go sans hair removal? xx

Splurge vs Steal #2 - Studded Bralets

  Photobucket
I was on the Ark Clothing website today and found this nearly exact dupe for the popular Topshop studded bralet. Asides from the zip down the middle it's nearly identical, and half the price! Of course you can't really point fingers and say Ark are copying as Topshop are taking inspiration from Versace's spring collection anyways. The rest of the Ark bralets are cute too, have my eye on the leather one as I'm thinking of going all leather and fishnets when I go the Born this Way Ball in September! xx

♥ DIY Caviar Nails for under £5 ♥

Photobucket
You may have heard of the Ciate caviar nail set, which is essentially tiny spherical beads you apply to the nails to give a 'caviar' effect. However they are retailing these sets for £18! As Kanye would say, that shit cray. When looking up pictures of caviar nails I found this awesome blog Fab Fatale. This cute citrus inspired mani was achieved with sprinkling just clear micro beads over nail polish for a caviar accent nail. The microbeads are essentially what you get in the Ciate set but don't need to cost £18!

I remembered I actually have some multi coloured micro beads I bought when I was going through an arts n crafts phase a couple of years ago so decided to try this out myself.
Photobucket
So much cheaper and easier to get your hands on than the Ciate set! I decided to do this mani on false nails and use for a special occasion as there's no way in hell this would last two seconds on my real nails working in retail and all.
Photobucket
You can get micro beads from arts & crafts shops and on Ebay here. I used Gem Fatale's handy tip for painting false nails, and stuck them to the end of a cotton bud so they stay still and can be dipped in the micro beads.
Photobucket
I chose a white polish for a base colour so the purple, green and blue micro beads really stood out. I painted one coat, let it dry and then painted a second coat. While the second coat was still wet I dipped the nail in the micro beads, rolling it from side to side as well to make sure the beads got on the edges of the nail.

I wouldn't recommend using clear nail polish to seal the beads because they will probably come off on the nail brush, I just gave the nails a couple of bursts with some hairspray. No idea if that's going to help though.

Also if the falsies look a bit wonky it's because I just stuck them on with some blu tack for photo purposes, can't wait to wear them properly though, the beads are mesmerising!

I'll wait on mountain tops in Paris cold

Hey guys! Sorry long time post, again. Howevs I have actually got of my arse and take an outfit post so that hopefully makes up for it.

I handed in my notice at work, doing daytime babysitting instead; which will hopefully be slightly more fun than working in retail where I can actually feel my brain cells rotting, and people shout at me when I don't give them extra plastic bags -_- Also I got a helix piercing with my friend Lindy, so I know have 7 piercings in total.

Don't think I want any more, seven is my lucky number so may just leave it at that! I got it done at a proper tattoo/piercing parlour this time. Much nicer and less nerve wracking than Claire's where anyone who is in the shop gawps at you while you get pierced. Also picking up this cute deco hairbrush with the voucher they give you when you get your ears done at Claire's.

Also bought this cute double ring from Topshop. I think it's meant to go over your index finger and little finger but I am plagued with obese hands so it will only go on my last two fingers. Literally the bane of my life. My Granny also gave me a foundation and blusher she didn't want. The blusher is Laura Mercier so I was all DON'T MIND IF I DO. It's quite a deep raspberry colour with some glittery bits called 'city pink'. Requires quite a bit of blending so you don't look overly keen and red, but still pretty.

Spent the whole of today drafting posts, moar soonish. xx

Splurge vs Steal #1 Scalloped Hem Shorts

I thought this would be a good idea for a post series for finding cheaper version of popular things online, not necessarily on Ebay! Found these beauties over the weekend and they're a pefect staple for summer, though it would be rude not to share!

Photobucket
RI only have pairs left in size 8 and 10 so go quickly! Scalloped hem shorts seem to be going on Ebay for £20+ so these are an absolute bargain. xx
